2.Palaiokastro – Palaiopoli (Tsakona’s gorge).

Starting from the root of the mountain of Palaiokastro, the first capital of Kythira, escorted by Vrettos who was born and raised in Mitata, a village placed right on the edge of the specific gorge, you will begin one of the nicest walks both in experiences and adrenaline.

There are not many hard spots in the route. The beginning is easy, with a drop of about 10m and then there is a pool of still water that is not suitable for swimming, but you’ll have to bypass it using specific techniques that your guide will teach you.

To make amends for that difficult passing, the Kytherian Blue Lagoon is waiting for you next. It’s a pool with blue-green crystal clear waters. At this point you’ll have the chance to either get across by “playing” with the technique called “Flying Fox”( suspended by a pulley that “runs” on a tensed line), or have a swim in the clear water, or both. The rest of the route until the final swim at the beach of Limni in Palaiopoli, is pleasant and with out any difficulty.

3. Mylopotamos – Kalami (Watermills)

The tour begins by taking the road down towards the Neraida waterfall, through the village of Mylopotamos, where the meeting point is. After having the first swim at the waterfall and being under the sleepless eye of Vrettos, you continue for Kalami. The path is covered in green and the flowing waters plenty. The alternating images of waterfalls, ponds and reeks will escort you until you leave behind the last watermill (old buildings used for grinding wheat into flour by harnessing the power of water and such buildings you will come across often). From this point the scenery changes. The gorge is dried from water and the rocks are getting steeper. Ending at the Kalami beach, to the west side of the island, the swim into the crystal clear water will cool you and the sight of the setting sun, the best on Kythera, will leave you mesmerized. The tour ends after following the footpath upwards from Kalami to Panagia Orfani, a beautiful chapel carved into the rock at the edge of the gorge.
