The dog and the cat, two caves standing proudly and watching Mitata from the edge of Plakasia’s vertical slope, the Trilagado as it is called at Tsakona’s gorge. The name comes from the shape of the outline especially the one of the dog. They were used as look-out posts for Palaiokastro, the island’s initial capital. Inside them, besides the guards’ dorms, there are also three Byzantine churches. To get there one would choose one of the three trails starting from Mitata or by car up to Viaradika’s fountain.
