During the whole summer season, but especially around mid August, you can have a taste of the local traditional music by attending one of the festivals taking place in many villages. One of the most important, since 1982, consistently every second Saturday in August, is the Wine Festival held in Alonaki square of Mitata. Abundant free portions of local wine of every variety will escort your dancing. The dancing and the songs are mostly influenced by Crete (Chania) because of the geographical proximity. Kytherian traditional dances are Bourdaris, Messaritikos, Agios Giorgis, Papadopanagiotena and Karavitikos! Do not hesitate to step in the circle, follow the local’s steps and become one with them.
